We recently talked to Erick Frausto, Data Engineer Lead at Kueski. Kueski is the largest online consumer lender in Mexico, providing financial services for users who are ineligible for traditional bank loans. Thanks to its technology and data analysis criteria, the company has positioned itself as a market leader.
¿Why Kueski?
E.F.: Honestly, I didn’t know anything about Kueski until I was first contacted by Timbi. It was then that I found out about the company and the products it offers.
¿How did you become part of such a disruptive sector as FinTech (coming from the banking and consultancy sector)?
E.F.: My experience previous to Kueski was within the banking sector working with data technologies, and I recall FinTech being brought-up in more than one occasion. Its rapid evolution, the sectors’ ability to rapidly respond to market changes and opportunities, and anticipating the sector as a serious threat to the traditional financial services sector towards the near future (perhaps present?).
Given the above context and realizing that Kueski was a data-driven company where both engineering and data science play a key role in the development of the business, I was very motivated to take part in the evaluation process and eager to get an opportunity to collaborate with the company.

How would you describe the FinTech community in Mexico?
I believe that FinTech companies are growing and that given that they were born with technology as a foundation, they are clearly aware that technology represents not only one more tool, but a platform that accelerates market positioning of their offer.
¿What was your worst “headache” during your first months at Kueski? Why? What did you do to solve it?
I haven’t really had any headaches. The only very surprising thing during my first days at Kueski was the work culture, very different from what I was accustomed to at previous companies, but that far from unusual is even more fascinating.
